Installing replacement filters is a fairly simple process on most household HVAC systems. If you’re new to maintaining your home’s system, here’s a primer on choosing and installing replacement filters.
Choosing Replacement Filters
The easiest way to purchase a replacement filter is to write down the brand name and any identification numbers, model numbers or measurements from your current filter, and contact Twin City Filter Service. We can help you find a replacement.
How to Change a Home HVAC Filter
Replacing an air filter is easy on most home units.
- Turn off the power on the system. Have a garbage bag ready for the dirty filters, and have your new filters ready.
- Open (or remove) the filter cover.
- Remove the dirty filter(s) and slip them into the trash bag.
- If space allows, clean the filter track.
- Look for arrows on the filter to show you which way to insert the filter. Make sure that the filter is positioned correctly andinsert the replacement filter into the slot.
- Make sure the filter fits correctly (all air has to go through and not around the filter).
- Close (or replace) the filter cover.
- Turn your system back on.
Filters inside your unit may need to be changed by a professional HVAC contractor. Always consult your home system’s user manual and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
