Although belt suppliers may tell you differently, not all belts are equal. Before calling belt suppliers about replacements, consider the following.
- Where were their belts made? American-made rubber belts, especially V-belts for industry, manufacturing and automotive applications tend to be better-made and last longer than belts manufactured elsewhere. Ask where the belt suppliers’ get their belts from; you may be surprised by the answer. Insist on American-made belts!
- Should you order in bulk? Some belt suppliers can save you money by ordering belts in quantity. If you think you’ll go through a number of belts of the same size quickly, it may pay to order in bulk. However, some materials degrade over time. You need to weigh the cost versus the benefits of ordering belts in advance.
- What if you need special sizes? Some companies stock only the most common sizes. Others can find unique belts for a wide variety of applications. Choose a company that has a wide network of suppliers who can find belts of the right size, shape and materials for the tasks at hand.
