Choosing the Best Filter Frames

Why are some filter frames plastic while others are metal? It depends on the application. Plastic is lighter, flexible, works well in high moisture, but limits the media that can be used (you can’t use glass media in plastic frames). Also, plastic frames require media loading tools (a small expense that can save a lot of time). Metal, on the other hand, can handle all media, including glass media, with no special tools.

Instead of thinking about filter frames first, think about the purpose of the filter first. What do you need your filter to do? Screen out airborne dust, mold, pollen, paint particles or something else? This will dictate the filtration material, and in turn, the frame it goes into.

Make sure that the right size filter frame is chosen, too. Filters should fit snugly into the openings in which they are placed; if there are gaps, they can’t do their job properly. Likewise, bent or damaged filter frames won’t fit properly into units or openings, and vibrations, distortions, or poor filtration results.
