Changing Industrial Filters May Significantly Reduce Chemical Exposure

Sometimes, just changing one industrial filter material for another can greatly reduce the output of harmful chemicals into systems and the environment. One such example comes to mind from Gore, a manufacturer of bag filters.

A company was using an old shaker-style baghouse filter made from woven acrylic. They found themselves dealing with a tricky combination of chemicals leaking from the old industrial filter and it required frequent filter changes. The company in this example was running a sinter furnace working with galena, a lead/sulfur compound. Galena releases sulfur oxides during processing. The industrial filter problems resulted in dirty, uncomfortable working conditions, and chemical leaks into an environmentally sensitive area. The company was highly motivated to find a solution!

Changing the baghouse material from acrylic to membrane filters bags with a different weave provided the solution. The new material reduced the stack emissions and improved the life of the industrial filters.  Since the filters needed to be changed less often, the company saved money, while keeping harmful particles from the work area and the local environment.

When the right materials are chosen for industrial filters, the results can seem like magic. If your business finds itself changing industrial filters more frequently than usual, or dealing with similar problems, it’s time to talk to the experts.
